About the project
My project focuses on two countries, Spain and Portugal, and how they envisaged their relations with Rome during the “Primo Settecento”. Both countries developed a rich diplomacy and particular means of conducting affairs in Rome. My goal is to analyze the extent of their foreign presence in Rome from the artistic/cultural point of view, and how this foreign influence helped the creation of a national identity. My aim is, on the one hand, to evaluate how it influenced the evolution of the arts in their countries of origin or how Spain and Portugal have assumed the Roman paradigm. On the other hand, I want to study to the extent to which the Portuguese and Spaniard presence affected the cultural realm of the Urbs and their fertile relationships with other countries.
